How To Effectively Use Email Marketing?
Having a strong and precise email marketing strategy is one of the most important aspects of a successful digital marketing campaign. The best thing is it can be completely automated so once it's set up it keeps sending through sales and or leads.
The purpose of email marketing isn't just to send out a monthly newsletter. It is to sell your products and services to new and existing clients.
Upsell Email Marketing
Using a pool care business as an example, a customer books in to have their pool serviced through an online portal. This captures their email address and other person data (or data is added manually to a database). Now after their first pool service is completed the customer can be added to separate email marketing campaigns. One might be to upsell pool care products like chlorine or pool filters. Another campaign would be used to prompt the customer into booking in another service offering 10% off for being a loyal customer.
This is a pretty easy concept to understand, Its keeping your customers coming back for more. Ultimately increasing the lifetime value of your customers.
Acquisition Email Marketing
A common question is “how does email marketing generate new customers”. Well when combined with content marketing it can work wonders.
A simplified strategy would incorporate creating and distributing engaging and useful content like an ebook, using the pool care example above this could be an eBook that is a guide to pool care or the “3 easiest ways to keep your pool looking clean” a potential customer downloads this after reading a blog or a social media post effectively giving you their details. Once they have submitted their details they get access to the content for free and you add them to an acquisition email marketing campaign. The email marketing campaign is then used to direct the potential customer back to a landing page in your website to make a purchase or book in for a service.
It's important to understand that with the above strategy the concept of a value ladder comes in.
A value ladder helps you build out an email marketing campaign. If you go in strong with a sales pitch to begin with you're not going to get a great response. You need to add more value slowly over time and keep your audience engaged until they trust your business enough to buy.
The email campaign could look like this.
1st email - thanks for downloading our 3 easy ways to keep you pool looking clean. Feel free to visit this page to find out more about pool care and book in for a free PH test.
2nd email - Did you know that the PH levels of your pool can affect your health in the following ways…….(list health problems) You can book in for a free PH level test with our friendly consultants. Book in here (linked to landing page)
3rd email - We hope you found our ebook useful. Remember we are offering free PH tests for the month of January. Book your free test in here (link to landing page)
This sort of campaign would allow the pool care company in question to get their foot in the door and pitch their services face to face. Given that they are professional and offering a quality service once the customer has bought the services they are then added to the upsell email marketing campaigns to ensure they are getting the most value out of the client.
Again. Nobody reads your newsletters and if they do they aren't getting you more revenue. But if you can create a value ladder you can turn your email list into a huge revenue stream.
